Point Park University has increased energy efficiency across its campus with the completion of lighting retrofits in existing buildings. The university has also installed an energy management system with evening cutbacks to reduce energy use in non-residential buildings overnight when few students are using them. Its new dance complex, meanwhile, is LEED registered.

LONG-TERM RECOMMENDATION

Compost Food

In November 2006, Pennsylvania Resource Council published a food waste composting feasibility study. The results indicate if Pittsburgh’s higher education institutions composted 40,000 pounds, or 20 tons of food waste per year, CO2e emissions would be reduced by 3,720 tons.
