The Urban Redevelopment Authority of Pittsburgh (URA) focuses on creating jobs, increasing the city’s tax base, and improving Pittsburgh’s livability. The URA has implemented multiple sustainability actions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in their operations. For projects which require URA funding, Energy Star Certification is required for all new residential construction and LEED Certification is strongly encouraged for commercial developments. The URA offers a loan fund for residential energy efficiency upgrades, which offers 0% interest and a $2500 grant for energy upgrades to qualified homeowners.
The URA has created a which provides energy audits and low-interest loans to small businesses to improve energy and water efficiency. The URA also has formed a Green Team which engages staff in sustainable policies across departments.
